MODERN ZEN
"The threat of doing a modern bathroom is that it can feel cold," says Pamela Butz, that remodeled this house near Boston with spouse Jeffrey Klug. Their answer was a layout that errs on the side of simplicity, but with beautiful, natural substances that "speak for themselves."

TRELLIS ACCENTS
Chinoiserie matches orangery from the trellis-accented powder area, with millwork by Philippe Le Manach of Accents of France. Farrow & Ball paints in Dix Blue and treillage in Plummett, either the walls. The lantern above is from Charles Edwards.

FARMHOUSE STYLE
Nothing says "rustic" over chicken wire. Use the screening in place of glass cupboard doors to up the country feel and show off heaps of fresh towels.

SUNNY POOL HOUSE
Guests at a North Carolina house made by MA Allen soda in this changing area before hitting the pool. A built-in bench doubles as storage room for towels, along with a gooseneck light fixture from Barn Electric Co. brightens the CB2 mirror.
